November 11, Remembrance Day

November 11 is a day of great import to Canadians. Known elsewhere as Armistice or Veteran's Day, Canada's Remembrance Day is a chance for average citizens to pay tribute to the men and women who have made sacrifices for our country in times of war. We celebrate our veterans and give thanks to those no longer with us.

On Remembrance Day, it is traditional to wear a poppy, a small red flower. It is a symbol of both the courage of our soldiers and the tragedy of war and was made famous by Lieutenant Colonel John McRae, a Canadian poet who served our country during the First World War. What follows is his poem, In Flanders Fields.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Many thanks to Sgt Brooker of the Canadian Armed Forces who joined us this past week to speak about the role of the military in Canadian society. His talk was informative, poignant and personal. We all had much to reflect upon and to be thankful for this November 11, Remembrance Day.

Dracula, A killer clown and a a a a a a a a Tinkerbell………

Last Friday was the day to bolt your doors, cover your windows and hide under your duvet….because at Eurocentres Vancouver ghosts and ghouls from all over the world came out to play! Almost everybody at Eurocentres came dressed in costume from the teachers to students and admin staff. The costumes varied from scary blood sucking vampires, killer clowns and demonic hockey players to fairies, cats and afro sporting basketball players.

As well as dressing up and learning about the traditions of Halloween, each class and all the teachers performed in the ‘talent’ show with songs, plays and poetic recitals. The tales were chilling, the acting bloody and the singing and dancing put fear into the audience for years to come. This Halloween was one to remember (especially as some of us still can’t remove the make up……..….mwah ha ha ha ha haaaaaa

British Columbia Education Quality Assurance (EQA)

When you choose a school, what do you expect to receive from that institution? The usual answer is a quality education, dedicated and well-trained staff, a well-structured syllabus and value for money. However, it is not always easy to find the best location and to ensure that this is will be the case for your studies and to aid you in reaching your academic and linguistic goals.

In order to assure prospective clients that an institution meets academic requirements of the highest quality, The Government of British Columbia has a strict program of approval to ensure this criterion is met. Working with the British Columbia Council for International Education (BCCIE), the Government now provides the Education Quality Assurance (EQA) seal of quality for post-secondary education upon an institution’s approval.

Eurocentres Vancouver was recently awarded the EQA and we are one of the first private schools to be granted this distinction in the whole of British Columbia. Therefore, this signifies the professionalism and dedication our school has to students achieving their academic goals. So, now is the time to make the right decision and come to Eurocentres to study with confidence.
