Sending Postcards

We’re half-way through November and although the weather is getting slightly colder, it didn’t stop the Eurocentres elementary class from enjoying a morning out and about the city. The students were thrilled to have a chance to tour the area while practicing valuable everyday language. They visited a souvenir shop to pick out postcards, then stopped at a nearby café to write them out and then proceeded to the post office to mail them. The students had been given time in class beforehand to make a draft of their postcards and were very excited to get the chance to send them back to their home countries. Forget about the internet! It was a fun morning and many students found the real life experience very useful. Check out this picture from our morning out.

Eurocentres in Much Music

October is an exciting month in Toronto. Somewhere in between Thanksgiving and Halloween, Eurocentres students were treated to a special behind-the-scenes tour at Bell Media’s Headquarters right in the heart of Toronto. This tour offers access to a variety of sets including CP24, etalk, BNN, Much Music, SPACE and the Marilyn Denis Show, just to name a few. Our group got special access to newsrooms and talk show sets during a live taping, followed by a quick question-and-answer segment with some of the production crew members. Students were buzzing with excitement and could not stop talking about how much fun they had. Take a look at some of the exclusive photos on our Facebook page. Here is our group on the etalk set. Talk about VIP!

Canadian Customs

Classes in Toronto have been talking about celebrations and customs a lot lately, in preparation for some big North American holidays coming up in October as well as our first pot luck lunch of the fall. Discussions around correct buffet etiquette got some of us talking about customs, traditions and superstitions of other events such as birthday parties, dinner parties, housewarming parties and even weddings! Eurocentres Toronto’s elementary class showed off their quick-thinking and creativity by working in teams to design a wedding dress for a potential bride on a budget. The challenge – was in the materials: newspaper and scotch tape! Check out these photos from our finalists modeled by two brave volunteers. Which dress would you choose?
