Beating the Winter Blues

Hard Rock Cafe Party

The students and staff of Eurocentres Toronto have found creative ways to beat the winter blues this February/March!  We believe that our tactics worked as we welcome spring-like temperatures this week.

At the end of February, we had another talent show as one of our indoor activities.  We invited a professional singer and guitarist from ISX to perform some hit songs. Our very own centre manager, Nadya, serenaded the crowd with a duet of Besame Mucho!  To top it all off, we found a special talent in one of our students as she belted out an amazing tribute to Whitney Houston.

We couldn’t have expected any more excitement this season, but our Hard Rock Café party last week was a hit!  The singing and dancing continued as students enjoyed being in Dundas Square.  It was a great event to say goodbye to some old friends as we also welcomed new ones. We can only imagine how much fun we’ll have when we officially welcome spring.  Goodbye Winter!

What's up in Vancouver

With the warmer weather approaching, Wiarton Willy’s prediction of an early spring seems prophetic along the Pacific Coast. However, “warmer” simply means that “the possibility of snow is gone, so bring on the rain.” Yes, that is the way it is in Vancouver.

However, some local news is giving reason to have a brighter outlook despite the grey skies. Eurocentres Vancouver recently became an IELTS testing centre, so we look forward to welcoming students who are looking to show their stuff on the IELTS exam.

The city is marking the two-year anniversary since the start of the 2010 Olympic Winter Games. All around Vancouver, people are getting nostalgic about what was Canada’s finest performance on the Olympic stage. Of course, nobody will ever forget Chris Cuthbert’s iconic call of “SIDNEY CROSBY!! THE GOLDEN GOAL!!” in the mens hockey final. I can still hear it loud and clear.

At that time, Eurocentres Vancouver was hosting a group of students from Nakamura University in Fukuoka, Japan. Those 22 enthusiastic young ladies were taking a special program aimed at giving them a taste of Vancouver’s culture as well as experiencing academics the Eurocentres way. This week, two years later, a new group of 16 wide-eyed women from the same university program followed in the footsteps of their predecessors for a two-week sampling of Vancouver hospitality. Welcome to Vancouver and do your best!

Eurocentres Vancouver Gets Funky at the Student Christmas Party

by Andrea Thoms

It's so great when everyone gets along, especially after getting through all the pressure of Cambridge Exams, Itembankers & RADIOS. Some students got a little down after seeing a lower than hoped for score on a test, but by the time students and staff hit the dance floor, everyone got over any disappointed feelings. It took a little prompting to get people up on the dance floor after the multiple delicious pasta dishes and desserts, but hopefully all the dancing helped us burn some of those extra calories. People were really getting down on the dance floor, and even the shyer types got by with a little help from friends, teachers and staff. Without getting into too many details, a fun time was had by all, and even those who had a little too much fun got through the night and got up early enough the next day to make it to class. Check out the pictures - word's getting around - Eurocentres Vancouver knows how to have a good time!
