Toronto Potluck

Teresa Diel

Potluck is on Friday and we can’t wait to share delicious food, treats and drinks from all around the world!  At the end of each month, this is an activity when students and staff of Eurocentres Toronto prepare their favourite national dishes to share. We have tried mouth-watering dishes like Crêpes from France, Lasagna from Italy, home-made Guacamole from Mexico, Bulgogi and Kimchi from Korea, Kapsa from Saudi Arabia, Okonomiyaki from Japan, Spanish Omelette from Spain, Empanadas from Colombia, Fondue and Chocolate from Switzerland and Feijoada and Brigadeiro from Brazil.  These are just a few of what to expect from a Eurocentres Potluck.  We have many more from Chile, the Czech Republic, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Germany, Poland, Peru and Taiwan!  From savoury to sweet, we have it all.  We look forward to filling our tummies!  Come and celebrate the diversity with us here in Toronto!

Spring Time in Vancouver

Graeme Rackham The flowers are out the cherry blossoms have come and gone but the energy and smiles have been popping out left and right around the city. The spring has most definitely arrived and a good sign that summer is just around the corner. We’ve been having great weather in Vancouver over the last two weeks and students are taking full advantage of the numerous outdoor activities in and around the city. Many of our Latin American students may be wondering why they are seeing Canadians running around in t-shirts and shorts in 20 degrees Celsius, well that’s just what we do after a long rainy winter, and this is warm for us! Finally students are once again taking advantage of the roof top garden to enjoy their lunch with the beautiful scenery. As the long weekend is approaching for Victoria Day many students are signing up for our Rocky Mountain, Victoria, Whistler, and Seattle tours as well as taking on their own adventures by going camping in and around Whistler and the Fraser Valley. Just a reminder,……..…don’t pet the bears after too many beers on your camping trips! Play it safe and enjoy the nature! We are getting a group of students to play soccer this Friday and continue get more students itching to get more active. The Grouse Grind, a strenuous but rewarding hike up Grouse Mountain will be happening next week and is a favourite amongst many. We will be kicking off our summer with a welcoming BBQ at the end of the month and hopefully set up a Vancouver Eurocentres Soccer Team to compete against other schools during our summer season. Go! Team! Go! As June quickly approaches there are many things to check out in Vancouver. The annual Dragon Boat Festival and Jazz Festival are just one of many. We hope this beautiful weather lasts and plan for a fun and active summer here in Vancouver.

Listen

Eurocentres
By Teresa Diel
On April 18, 2012, we all listened. We listened to the song that our very own Azusa Watanabe had in her heart. "It was a sound from deep within and only beginning to release." We watched and listened to her as she graced the stage and performed for hundreds of people. Tears were shed. Cheers and applause were shared. The time came for the judges to make the final decision and Azusa's name was announced as the winner of ISX's ESL Idol! We had been counting down the days for this moment as we voted for her online to be a finalist at the Hard Rock Cafe. Eurocentres Toronto entered the competition as the one to beat. Azusa received the most votes before the finale. On April 18, 2012, several teachers and more than half of the students at Eurocentres Toronto listened to one student's dream come true. Not only are we proud of the talent of one, but of the overwhelming support of many. It was another great event that showed the true essence of being a family here at Eurocentres Toronto. We can't thank the students enough for being the best motivation for each other
