Many Changes in Eurocentres Vancouver

Paul Lazarus, our new Director of Studies

By Ryan

The middle of September always heralds in the arrival of the NHL hockey season…but not this year. Billionaire owners and millionaire players continue to argue over money during the league-wide lockout. But while these two sides fill boardrooms full of hot air, the winds of change are blowing through our Vancouver Eurocentres school.

We said goodbye to teachers Nicole, Vincent and Tyler, who all left to pursue ventures (or is that adventures?) in Asia; to Scott, who had a great business opportunity in Ontario, and to longtime director Andréa, who went back to university to pursue her Master’s Degree. But not all is sad…Andréa is still around a substitute whenever we need her!

In Andréa’s place we welcome Paul, who brings lots of experience into the director’s chair. He has already fit in well with the teaching staff and we are eager to fill his mind with all sorts of ideas – hopefully mostly good ones.

The IELTS program has taken off faster than an Apollo rocket, with tests being held every month, and possibly more to come. The Cambridge program is also in full swing with classes prepping candidates for the December session.

With all the strife that is going on in the world, I am reminded of one of the biggest reasons I enjoy being a teacher. At our school, we have an international community of students who care for and respect one another, no matter which language or country they come from. In contrast, the world seems to find ways of creating strife and violence between nations. Why can’t the world learn from us? .

Toronto International Film Festival

By Felicia

September is an exciting month in Toronto. The 34th Annual Toronto International Film Festival has Eurocentres students lining up and battling hoards of screaming fans to catch a glimpse of their favourite movie stars. Stargazing has never been easier with the Scotiabank Theatre just steps away from the school and TIFF events happening throughout the city. Students have been taking advantage of this unique opportunity to view various films from around the globe while shaking hands and getting autographs from some of the biggest celebrities out there. Check out these pictures taken by some of our students Luciana Rocha and Mohammed Alharbi. Up-close and personal with Johnny Depp and Will Smith.

Canada Day!

Happy Thursday Eurocentres Vancouver! The last week in June is here and with the long weekend approaching this can only mean one thing....CANADA DAY!! Go out and celebrate Canada's 145 birthday by enjoying all the awesome events and festivals Vancouver has to offer. Some of the best events we recommend include the Waterfront Party and Canada Day Parade, conveniently located at Canada Place. (10am-All day). This event will include live music, lots of entertainment and the annual Canada Day parade. Another great event is the Canada Day celebration at Granville Island. (8am-All day). This event includes a Parade, a Truly Canadian Pancake Breakfast, an official Canada Day Ceremony, live jazz, and lots of performers. Finally, we recommend the Burrard Inlet Fireworks Show. (10:30pm-11pm) Finish your Canada day off with an awesome light show in the sky. The 5th annual Fireworks display is visible from West Side, Downtown, North and West Vancouver. However you choose to celebrate, have fun, celebrate respectfully and be safe!
