Hope for Youth at Eurocentres Canada

by Andrea Thom

The year is winding up, and the drop in temperatures certainly shows that winter is on it’s way. We already have a dusting of snow on the mountains here in Vancouver, and skiers and snowboarders are excited to see the beginning of the season. Also, the Student Christmas Party, always one of our most exciting and fun-filled events, is only three weeks away! Even with the leaves falling from the trees, the darker days and the cooler temperatures, there’s a warm happy feeling in the school. Adding to this, we currently have two Hope for Youth – Study in Canada Project students at our school, and recently said goodbye to our first Hope for Youth – Study in Canada Project student, who spent an amazing four weeks with us. Hope for Youth is a joint scholarship program between Languages Canada and the Japanese Consulate in which Japanese students who were displaced by the March 2011 earthquake are given the opportunity to study in Vancouver or Toronto, with air fare, tuition and homestay provided for by both sponsors in Japan and Languages Canada member schools, of which Eurocentres Canada is a proud participant. Happy Autumn, everyone!!

Long Weekend Plans - Toronto

The long weekend is fast approaching and our students here at Eurocentres Toronto have a variety of trips to choose from! All trips include hotel, accommodation, a tour guide and a slew of activities to enjoy! Our French Canada tour is perfect for the Canada Day long weekend. A stop in Ottawa will surely be memorable as the new Royal Couple, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, will celebrate with Canadians on the 1st. After seeing a bit of the capital, the students can immerse in the French influence when they visit Montreal and Quebec City. Another option for our students would be to experience America’s festivities in NYC for the long weekend. All tickets and itineraries are offered at the school. More trips are available in July and August – Chicago and Washington D.C. are coming up! Tourism sites:

A Canadian Soccer Experience

by Teresa Diel

Our students had the chance to play soccer today at Christie Pitts Park! The afternoon started off windy but the sun shone and our group of 9 enjoyed themselves immensely. They met some locals practicing at the park and decided to play a friendly match. It was quite the Canadian Experience! Eurocentres won 4-1. They ended with a penalty shootout just for kicks. Christie Pitts is accessible by subway at Christie Station. Our students here at Eurocentres Toronto can easily hop on and off the subway to visit other places such as High Park or the University of Toronto campus to play upcoming soccer games. We hope to have more planned as the Summer comes!
