What's up in Vancouver

With the warmer weather approaching, Wiarton Willy’s prediction of an early spring seems prophetic along the Pacific Coast. However, “warmer” simply means that “the possibility of snow is gone, so bring on the rain.” Yes, that is the way it is in Vancouver.

However, some local news is giving reason to have a brighter outlook despite the grey skies. Eurocentres Vancouver recently became an IELTS testing centre, so we look forward to welcoming students who are looking to show their stuff on the IELTS exam.

The city is marking the two-year anniversary since the start of the 2010 Olympic Winter Games. All around Vancouver, people are getting nostalgic about what was Canada’s finest performance on the Olympic stage. Of course, nobody will ever forget Chris Cuthbert’s iconic call of “SIDNEY CROSBY!! THE GOLDEN GOAL!!” in the mens hockey final. I can still hear it loud and clear.

At that time, Eurocentres Vancouver was hosting a group of students from Nakamura University in Fukuoka, Japan. Those 22 enthusiastic young ladies were taking a special program aimed at giving them a taste of Vancouver’s culture as well as experiencing academics the Eurocentres way. This week, two years later, a new group of 16 wide-eyed women from the same university program followed in the footsteps of their predecessors for a two-week sampling of Vancouver hospitality. Welcome to Vancouver and do your best!
